يهدف هذا البحث إلى إلقاء الضوء على المثالية السياسية عند مايکل أواکيشوط، وهو أحد الفلاسفة القلائل الذين فکروا بعمق ومنهجية في طبيعة الفلسفة السياسية وقدموا نظرية متماسکة للسياسة، ومن ثم رسخ نفسه في قائمة کبار المنظرين السياسيين، حيث إنه اهتم بفهمنا للنشاط السياسي، ولکنه ذهب إلى ما هو أبعد من ذلک لتقديم فلسفة نقدية للنشاط البشري بشکل عام، فقد سعى إلى حل المشاکل التي واجهها کفيلسوف للسياسة أو مؤرخ للفکر السياسي، وذلک لأنه کان لديه إعتقاد بأن الفلسفة السياسية قد تساهم في الحياة السياسية وقد تکون بمثابة دليل للإصلاح الاجتماعي، کما أنه لا يعتقد بأن الفلسفة السياسية يمکن أن تبني أساسًا محددًا للمبادئ الأخلاقية والسياسية الموضوعية، ولذلک فإنها تسعى إلى فهم العدالة والمفاهيم السياسية الأخرى التي هى ليست ميتافيزيقية ولا سياسية، ومن ثم سوف نتعرض لمفهومه للفلسفة السياسية، والمثالية السياسية وفلسفة التاريخ عنده، والنظرية المثالية للدولة عنده التي تم التعبير بوضوح عن تقديره لها وإدعى أنها النظرية الوحيدة التي أعطت إهتمامًا شاملًا لجميع المشکلات التي يجب أن تراعيها أو تتناولها نظرية الدولة، فضلًا عن سياسته وفکرة المجتمع المثالي، ومثاليته وسياسته العقلانية، ومثاليته السياسية ونزعته الشکية، ومثاليته السياسية والفهم الخاطئ، وکذلک المعرفة والنشاط السياسي والسلوک الأخلاقي والشخصية المثالية عنده، والمثالية والحرية والرغبة في السلطة عنده والمثالية السياسية وطبيعة الإنسان الاجتماعية.
