عتبر المر من اشهر النباتات التي استخدامها المصري القديم ،فالمر هو نبات صمغ راتنجي يستخرج من شجره موطنها الأصلي شبه الجزيرة العربية وکانت اول اشاره لذکر المر جاءت علي حجر بالرمو من عهد ساحورع والذي أکد علي أن مصدره بلاد بونت وکان يستخدم بکميات کبيره في مصر القديمة في الشعائر اليوميه بالمعابد وفي الطقوس الجنائزية وفي الطب فدخل في العديد من الوصفات الطبيه التي تستخدم لعلاج العديد من الأمراض کما دخل في العديد من الدهانات والمراهم الطبيه وفي صناعه الزيوت العطرية والبخور والتحنيط

Myrrh and its Uses in Ancient Egypt

Abstract: Among the many aromatic plants known to the ancient Egyptians, Myrrh was the most important. This plant, which is a kind of gum-resin extracted from plants of the genus Commiphora and originally grows in south-western Arabia and Punt, was well known to the Egyptians from an early period of their history. It was first mentioned on Palermo Stone from the reign of Sahure in the Fifth Dynasty, which indicates that it was then imported from Punt. Myrrh was extensively used in ancient Egypt in the daily rituals in the temples, in funeral rites and in medicine. Thus, it was commonly used in treating several diseases in the form of medical ointments and unguents, but it was also an important component in making aromatic oils, in preparing frankincense and in mummification
